Jesse enlisted with the 35th Georgia Infantry Regiment, Company A, in March 1862, and he served as the Fifer. He contracted dysentery during the Seven Days Battle and was sent home on a 60-day furlough, to get well. He died at home August 1, 1862.
Later, Sarah married Martin Key. Family lore says Sarah is buried between her husbands. There is currently no marker for Jesse.
