Alfred Leander Bancroft was the son of George Strong Bancroft and his wife, Cynthia Hill. Alfred was born in Walworth, Wayne Co., NY. He served in the Civil War on Co. E, 1st Reg. New York Vet. Cav. After the war he left New York to come to St. Louis where he lived the rest of his life. His father died in 1853 and his Mother died in 1873 after remarrying to Russell Allyn of Macedon, NY. He had three brothers: George B, Francis L and Barney H. Bancroft. It appears that Alfred led a successful life as a saleman. He married Lucy Kate Wilson, 10 Jul 1879 in St. Louis.
