Gloria Faye Hempel, 63, of Kimball, SD passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly Sunday, October 2, 2022 at her home. Memorial Services are 10:30 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Kimball Protestant Parish in Kimball. She will be laid to eternal rest at Kimball Community Cemetery following the service. Mount Funeral Home of Kimball is assisting with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family through mountfuneralhome.com.
Gloria Faye (Koranda) Hempel was born on October 24, 1958 in Platte, South Dakota to Edward and Corlena (Vandenberg) Koranda. Gloria was blessed to have shared her life with nine brothers and sisters.
On March 11, 1983 Gloria and Perry Hempel joined in the union of holy matrimony in Kimball, South Dakota. The two of them were lifelong companions and the best of friends from the start. To this union, four children were born: Kelli, Perry, Alan and Alesha.
Gloria loved to be outside enjoying the sunshine and fresh air, and could often be seen keeping the flowerbeds free of pesky weeds. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and searching for homemade cures for all your ailments. Gloria was not a woman of many words, until it came to putting a pen to paper. Her greatest joy though, was definitely her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Having shared in her life and had the privilege of loving her were: her husband of over 39 years, Perry Hempel of Kimball, SD; her children: Kelli (Jeff) Nelson of Kimball, SD, Perry (Falyn) Hempel of Faulkton, SD, Alan (Jamie Mashek) Hempel of Rapid City, SD, and Alesha (James) Glenn of Sioux Falls, SD; her brothers: Robert (Nancy) Koranda of Kimball, SD, Larry(Pat) Koranda of Fort Worth, TX and Tom (Sandy) Koranda of Colman, SD; sisters: Marlene Koranda of Las Vegas, NV, Marlys Schlichting of Kimball, SD and Sandra (Edwin) Westendorf of Detroit Lakes, MN; her grandchildren: Javan (Preston Norgaard) Heath, Easton and Grady Nelson, Michael, Tre, and Hoyt Hempel, Grace and Clara Glenn; her great grandchildren: Addison Wingert-Hempel, Scarlett and River Norgaard; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Gloria in death were: her parents, Edward and Corlena Koranda; three sisters: Pat, Karen, and Sherrie; and one grandchild, Kilian Hempel.
