Mary Katie Ness, age 92, of York, formerly of Craley, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Born October 21, 1930 on her family's farm in Sprigettsbury Township, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alfretta (Haupt) Knaub. Mary retired from Heatherbank Nursing Home in Columbia where she worked in the housekeeping department. Earlier in life, she worked for Wilton Armatel. Mary will be remembered most for her cooking at the Wrightsville Legion and the Hellam VFW, where she was famous for her cream of crab soup and her potato salad. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wrightsville Legion and the Hellam VFW. She enjoyed doing word searches, taking bus trips, visiting Florida with her sister Esther, and she especially enjoyed the cruise she took in 2012 with Keith and Vicki. She loved to feed "Cricket" the bird sunflower seeds she would pick out of the bird food and petting "Woody" the cat. Above all, she cherished time with her family, and got her wish granted to spend time with them all this Christmas. At the end of her journey, she would tell family she wanted to go Home to be with her parents, Grammy, her baby brother, and her daughter Donna. Mary is survived by her children Clyde (Coleen), Keith (Vicki), Vickie (Mike) Leiphart, Dennis (Nancy), Howard (Janice), Tim (Cheryl), Missy (Tom) Coon, Todd, and Rick (Sheila), her son in law Donald Fake, her brother Gordon Knaub, her sister Marion Gross, and her 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the many kids in the community who also affectionately called her Nanny Ness. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Donna Fake, her brothers Roy and Clarence Knaub, her sister Esther Beam and her fur baby "Pebbles". A funeral service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 700 Hellam Street, Wrightsville, with Pastor Aaron McNatt officiating. Interment will follow in Craley Cemetery. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.
