Beloved wife of Robert H. Shoop, Jr.; loving mother of Robert III (Maura) Shoop, William (Kathleen) Shoop, and John (Marcia) Shoop; grandmother of Tyler, Jay, Sidney, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Mary Elizabeth Shoop; sister of William Hartman and the late Elizabeth Hartman. Janet was born in Boardman, OH on December 10, 1942. She was one of the founders and the only President of the Kerr Memorial Museum in Oakmont, PA, which is run solely by volunteers. The Museum recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. Janet saw this as an opportunity to create a historic landmark in Oakmont. A turn of the century doctor's office was a window in the life of a middle-class family. She received the Golden Oak Award in 2018 from the Oakmont Historical Society. Janet was a Board member of the Riverview Children's Center for over twenty years. It emerged from a small day care to an expanded school and childcare center known for its high quality of care and nurture of children and their families. She also served as President of the Symphony Association and was a member and leader in the Junior League. She was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother and aunt. At several junctures in her life members of her extended family lived with the Shoops at their home on Hulton Road. She adored her grandchildren. She reveled in family life. She never missed a chance to make things special when the whole family would gather. Some of her fondest memories involved being a proud big sister and getting to support Academy Award nominated and Golden Globe winner Elizabeth "Biff" Hartman as she fulfilled her dreams of stage and screen. Janet excelled at hospitality. She created countless memorable celebrations and events at the Shoop home for loved ones and even people she had never met before they arrived to her warm welcome. She also loved making her sons' friends feel at home down to having their favorite cookies waiting in the pantry. Although she was never an athlete herself, she rarely missed the opportunity to attend her sons' and grandchildren's athletic contests including football, baseball, wrestling, track, swimming, rugby, marching band, and cross-country running. There is no way to count the number of football games she attended through the years including for sons who went on to play and coach football across the globe. Janet, lovingly known to many as "Gran Jan" was the hub of the Shoop family and the community she loved. She will be missed. Friends and family will be received on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 2-6 p.m. at ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. Memorial contributions may be made in Janet's name to Kerr Memorial Museum at 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139.
