He began playing the drums during his mid-teenage years and gained experience with Donny Hathaway including his contributions to Hathaway's 1972 album "Live." White later joined "The Salty Peppers" with his older brothers Maurice and Verdine White. They evolved into "Earth, Wind & Fire" and enjoyed commercial success with the hits "Shining Star" (1975, number one, gold status), "Sing A Song" (1975, number one and gold status), and "Getaway" (1976, gold status) among others. White was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of "Earth, Wind & Fire" in 2000.
