Charles Ray Short lost his battle with cancer on 5/25/22 at UMC. Charles was born in Cortez Colorado, April 7th, 1970, to Homa Ray and Linda Short. He was a 1989 graduate of Sundown High School and received his BS from the University of New Mexico and had 17 years with Texas Tech University working in their IT Department. Charles is best known for his work with the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, and the Make a Wish Foundation. He was instrumental in the beginning of the LubbockCon. He was a dedicated Star Wars enthusiast and held many workshops for costume building and helping others with their costume approvals for the Legion. He also volunteered as a monitor for the UIL spelling competitions in Lubbock.

As he battled cancer, he was well known for his YouTube cancer journey #FrakCancer. When getting his treatments at the center he was always asking and encouraging other patients getting treatments. Charles has donated his body to science to further the research and treatment of esophageal cancer. He was our Gentle Giant and left a warming impression to everyone he met. Our world is less bright without him.

Charles is survived by his mother Linda Short of Lubbock, brother Thomas Short of Lubbock, and sister Marcie (Short) Buck of Florida, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Homa Ray Short.
