Martha Jean (Dougenik Light) Smith, 53, beloved "mommy," daughter, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, surrounded by family, after a year-long battle with cancer.
She was born in Rockville on Nov. 22, 1959, to Mildred (Larson) Dougenik and the late Theodore A. Dougenik. She graduated from Rockville High School in 1977, in what is now Vernon, Connecticut.
Martha is survived by her mother, her sisters, her brother, three daughters, two sons, and several grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Theodore, and her sister Jeanette Landeck of Storrs.
One of Martha's many gifts was her ability to sew, and each of her daughters was fortunate enough to wear a dress handmade by her on their wedding day.
