DEATH CLAIMS GUARD AT BIER OF ABE LINCOLN
John L. Weaver, 91, Dies At Manteca After Brief Illness
MANTECA OFFICE STOCKTON RECORD, Oct. 29-John L. Weaver, 90, last of Manteca's Civil War veterans and guard at the bier of martyred Presidnet Abraham Lincoln, was taken by death yesterday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Sutliff, on West Yosemite Avenue, following a one-day illness. He contracted a cold Tuesday which developed into pneumonia.
Weaver celebrated his ninetieth birthday on November, 1935, and would have observed his ninety-first birthday the 10th of next month. The veteran was born in Pennsylvania in 1845. He came to California in 1874, but returned to Pennsylvania. Ten years later he returned, settling at Livingston, Merced County. In 1917 he came to Manteca to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Sutliff, where he stayed until the time of his death.
DETAILED AS GUARD
Weaver served during the Civil War in Company F, 103d Pennsylvania Regiment. His company was stationed at Baltimore at the time President Lincoln was assassinated.
When the body of the Great Emancipator was being taken to Springfield, Ill., for burial, Weaver, together with other members of his company was detailed to board the train at Baltimore and stand guard at the bier of the President until the train reached Harrisburg, Pa.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Sutliff of Manteca; two sons, Henry E. Weaver of Yosemite Junction, Tuolumne County, and Lloyd Weaver of Delhi, and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Stoner of Scottdale, Pa. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Interment in family plot in Park View Cemetery.

MANTECA OFFICE STOCKTON RECORD, Nov 2.-Funeral services were conducted Saturday in Park View Chapel for John L. Weaver, 90, last of Manteca's Civil War veterans, who died in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Sutliff, Wednesday.
