Virginia B. Speer, 94, formerly of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away May 2, 2012 at Moravian Hall Square in Nazareth, PA. Born: She was born on July 25, 1917 in Zion, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Gale M. and Phoebe Snyder Brooks.

Personal: She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Speer in 1996, and her beloved dog, Sammy. Virginia was a teacher, librarian, loving wife and mother. She loved the spring flowers, bird songs and green trees. Spring meant she could resume her favorite activities like collecting agates along Lake Superior, watching the columbine bloom, and listening to the Carolina wrens who always made a nest in the garage. She liked to stay active by golfing and hiking with Sammy. Winter was not her favorite time, but she kept busy with her genealogy work and improving her bridge and Scrabble games.

Survivors: She is survived by her daughter Jean Sherwood, son Christopher Speer and 10 grandchildren.

Services: Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home,P.C., Nazareth, PA. Memorials: Contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice House, Suite 200 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
