Mr. Apgar retired as vice president of Harriman Ripley & Co., New York, where he was in charge of municipal bonds, in December, 1958, after being with the firm for 24 years. He formerly had been associated with the National City Company which he joined in 1918, later becoming manager. He was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and the Bankers Club of New York.
Mr. Apgar was born in Plainfield May 25, 1898. His family later moved to Brooklyn where he attended elementary and high school. He also attended New York University.
In Verona, Mr. Apgar served as a member of the Board of Assessors for five years.
He was also active in the Verona Republican Club and as a Republican county committeeman. He was also active in the Verona Citizens Conference at one time and in 1955 supported the Democratic candidacy of Rufus Trimble for the Verona Council, stating candidates should be considered on the basis of qualifications and not merely party label. The flowing year, he supported the Republican candidacies of Walter D. McKinley and Albert C. Windolf.
Mr. Apgar is survived by his widow, Ruth Lendrim Apgar; two daughters, Mrs. Robert E. Hickie of Beach Haven and Mrs. Henry P. Schenck of Grand Island. N.Y., six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.∼Last known address: Zip Code 07044, Verona, Essex County, New Jersey
