H A Hatch was born in Butler County, Ohio. He married Esther Shannon Ryan on 20 Oct 1884 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They were parents of Bertha, F A, Carl, and one unnamed daughter. In 1908 he left the Wey Hardward as manager and went into the dry goods business with his son-in-law, F M Wood. His son, F A, and grandson Frank Wood continued the business. He was a Mason. He died in Quanah, Texas.
