Department Store Owner in Lynn, 59

TOPSFIELD, Nov. 21 -- Charles E. Magrane, 59, president of P. B. Magrane Company, Lynn department store, died today at his home on Rowley Bridge road.

One of the North Shore's most prominent merchants, Mr. Magrane was a former president of the Lynn Chamber of Commerce, a leader in community fund activities and general manager of the Lynn Retail Trade Bureau. He headed the Red Cross Chapter in that city during World War II.

He was a graduate of Fordham University, and had formerly been with Magrane-Houston, Inc., of Boston. He was also treasurer of the Magrane Realty Company and held directorships in several North Shore banks.

He leaves three sons, Winsor of Marblehead, Charles E. Jr, and John of Swampscott; a daughter, Phyllis of Swampscott, and a sister, Mrs. Paul D. Rothwell of Brookline.

Private funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday in St. Rose's Church.
