Walter was born to Frank and Mary Ming in Holtville, Ca on November 17, 1930. He attended Holtville High School before joining the Coast Guard for two years. After the Coast Guard, he returned to Holtville and worked with his father in the carpentry business. During this time, he met and married his wife, Barbara Jeanne Heflin. Walter and Jeanne were married for 72 years and had 5 children.
Walter continued his carpentry skill and was a member of the Carpenter's Union and then worked for Duggins Construction Company for many years. He began his own business, "Ming Construction & Cabinets" and had his sons working by his side. He was well known as a master craftsman and he worked on many homes in the valley.
Through the years, Walter was an avid hunter and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his sons and friends. He was a father figure to other boys in the neighborhood, and they were invited on some of these trips. Walter also had a great love of golf and you could frequently find him on the golf course with family or friends. One of his greatest memories was making the rounds of golf courses on the beautiful isle of Kauai.
His Swiss heritage was very important to him and he was a member of the Holtville Swiss Club. You could always find Walter at the annual Swiss Swing visiting and reminiscing with family and friends.
Through a difficult and trying season of life, Walter placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ and found forgiveness and acceptance from God. At the end of his life, he looked to Christ again to lead him to his eternal home in heaven.
Walter is survived by his wife, Jeanne; their children, Sherry Laatsch (Bill), Linda Conner (John), Walter Jr. (Bud) Ming (Diane), John Ming (Lynne), Tamara (Tammy) Driscoll-Lyon (Craig); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.
