Allan Collister Gowans, 86, passed away at Boone Hospital, Columbia, Missouri on January 11, 2023. On May 31, 1936, he was born in Dorset Ontario, Canada to the late Nielson Gowans and Louise Marion (Collister) Gowans. Allan married Ann Burlene Dodson on November 2, 1966, who survives his passing.
Allan served in the US Air Force from 1956 through 1960 as a flight mechanic. Allan retired from Fulton State Hospital after 21 years. He also worked for 15 years for Fulton Public Schools.
Allan passed his time reading westerns. He could often be found drinking coffee with various friends in the group known as the "downtown coffee group" for many years. His love for mechanics continued as he enjoyed antique cars. While working for the schools, he drove the school lunch delivery van. Ann fondly remembers him coming home one day and after entering the house he realized the van had slipped out of gear. It is a great memory thinking of him running down the drive and street trying to catch the van.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years; son David D. Gibson (Sharon); grandchild, Nicole Rothe; great-grandchildren, Lola Morris and Tyler Rothe.
Along with his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his brothers, Alec Gowans, Ernest Gowans, William Gowans, and Thomas Gowans.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hams Prairie Cemetery.
