Graduated from China Spring High School in 1983, decided he didn't want to go to college, so worked in housing construction for 7 years. When he had enough of that, he went to TSTC and became an electrical lineman and worked for Austin Power & Light two years until he got caught up on a light pole during a lightning storm. At that time, he decided at age 28 to go back to school and entered Texas A&M. He graduated with two degrees – one in BioMed Science and one in Wildlife Science. He was working for USDA at the time of his death. He never married. He was an expert welder and horseman, and a true sportsman, and spent most of his free time out of doors. He loved the Valley Mills area, and the Texas coast. He was generous to a fault, and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He had a special bond with his older sister Robin, and her husband Tony Tomchesson, who was with him at Texas A&M. He lived at College Station and was killed just outside of the Bryan-College Station area.
He is survived by his mother, Abby (Alba Lynn)Streight Birdwell, step-father Joe; his dad, Donald Truitt Poston; step-mother, Kitty; sister Robin Marie Poston Tomchesson and husband Anthony (Tony); grandmother Ruth McKinney Poston of Mosheim; 4 stepbrothers, 2 step-sisters; aunt Beverly Castro; 2 uncles, Ron Poston and wife Pam and Doug Poston and wife Wanda. He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother and grandfather, Alberta Custer Streight and Glenn Boulware Streight; paternal grandfather Dewit Truitt (D.T.) Poston, and one uncle, John Poston, son of D.T. and Ruth Poston. Madison, D.T. and John Poston are buried in Poston-Odle Cemetery. Grandmother Ruth McKinney Poston, died at age 99 and is buried next to her husband, D T Poston in Poston-Odle Family Cemetery. Uncle Doug Poston and wife, Wanda, are also now buried in Poston-Odle. ab
Matt worked in Construction from 1983 - 1986, 3 years, until his enrollment in the TSTI Lineman Program. He returned to his education at Texas A&M University in 1988, graduating in 1993 and earning a second degree in 1996.
