Sophronia Belle Abbott

Sophronia Belle McCune, was born in Putnam county, Mo., on February 21, 1868, and died at her home in Exline, Iowa, July 2, 1941. Being at the time of her death 73 years, 4 months and 11 days of age. She was the daughter of Michael and Isabelle McCune who were natives of Ohio. Her entire life was spent in Putnam county with the exeption of the last five years when she moved to Exline.
She was married to Benjamin F. Abbott on Feb. 5, 1888. Mr. Abbott preceded her in death on March 19, 1931. To this union was born five children all of whom survive, namely; Mrs. Dollie Kelley, of Exline, Mrs. Edith Mullins of Exline, Cloyd of Davenport, and Lloyd and Boyd of Exline, with whom she made her home. Her surviving grandchildren are Mrs. Rosalie McElwee of Exline, Mrs. Maggie Taylor of Inglewood, Calif., Cyrel, Webb, Boyd Lee, Doral, Billy and Maxine Mullins of Exline and Floyd and Evelyn Abbott of Davenport, Ia. Four great grandchildren also survive, they are Dollie Lee Kelley of Exline, June and Bud Taylor of Inglewood, Calif. and Carol Mullins of Exline.
Mrs. Abbott is the last member of a family of six children. She suffered a paralytic stroke about four years ago and had been in declining health since then, although not seriously ill until a few weeks ago.
Funeral services were held from her home in Exline on Thursday July 3rd, conducted by Elder E. E. Withrow. At the request of the family Mrs. Paul Castor and daughters sang several beautiful hymns.
Pall bearers were Clovie Deahl, Clifford Hollenbeck, Cyrell Mullins, R. O. Davis, Jess Allen and Ralph Van Dyke. Interment was made at the McCune family cemetery east of Hartford, Mo., under the direction of Johnson funeral home. There were a number of beautiful floral offerings. An especially lovely one was contributed by friends and near neighbors.
