Daily Democrat, Clinton MO - Cecil Coulter, 85, was born near Blairstown April 8, 1909, and left us for a better home July 31, 1994, at 12:07 a.m. at the Golden valley Memorial Hospital. His parents were Bert and Mayme (Sonders) Coulter. Cecil's mother died when he was quite small, so he was reared by his beloved stepmother Jessie (Gregory) Coulter. He has often said that no real Mother could have been more considerate, kind and thoughtful of him as he grew up. Cecil grew up helping his father farm near Blairstown. He also spent some time working for farmers in Iowa. In 1931, he married Elma Wirsig of Deepwater, who taught school in Henry County. They were blessed with three children, Doris Hebert of Clinton, Melvon Coulter of Warrensburg, and Kathryn Snyder of Smithville. In addition to farming, Cecil worked 23 years for Henry County Mutual Insurance Co. of Clinton. He enjoyed his insurance work because he met so many people to talk with and help out with their problems. As has often been said, "He never met a stranger." He had a sympathetic ear and wanted to help those in need. Cecil was a member of the Shawnee Mound Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served faithfully as an elder for many years. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Shawnee Cemetery for many years. Cecil lost his beloved wife Elma in 1971. Later he married Anna May (Crooks) Pickering and they spent 22 happy retirement years together. They enjoyed traveling in many countries in Europe, the Scandinavian Countries, as well as Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico. In 1987, their country home near Shawnee Mound burned, so they moved to Clinton, where they now reside. Cecil enjoyed having neighbors living close to him so he could visit with them. He was happy to have such kind friendly and interesting neighbors. Cecil leaves to mourn his passing his wife Anna May, and sister Mabel Wagoner; his three children mentioned earlier; six grandchildren, Kathy Ricker, Susan Bracken, Connie Swisher, Gary Coulter, Lisa and Steven Snyder. He also leaves twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The grandchildren were very special to him. They were his pride and joy, especially when they were fishing or riding horses or when they played in the haymow. He also leaves three stepchildren, Robert Pickering of St. Joseph, Pat Fike of Ft. Payne, Al., and Luther Pickering of Boroc, Ca. All three were very fond of Cecil and enjoyed his outgoing personality and his great sense of humor. Funeral services were held at the Shawnee Mound Cumberland Presbyterian Church Tuesday, August 2, 1994. Burial was in the Shawnee Mound Cemetery.
