Enlisted as a musician August 20, 1862 in Company A, 16th Vermont Volunteer Infantry. Mustered out to the 9th Vermont August 10, 1863 and in the 9th Vermont until the close of the war.

Mustered into Stanley Post #11, New Britain, Hartford County, Connecticut GAR September 12, 1883, Was made Commander in 1887. ADC to commander in Chief, 1906. Delegate at large West Encampment.
Died from Heart trouble and rheumatism, had been ill for the past two months before his death.
