Graveside services for Merceda L. Cape-Merrick, 79, Tampa, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kingman United Methodist Church, Kingman.

Mrs. Merrick died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at University Community Hospital, Tampa, Fla.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Eskridge, the daughter of Charles and Donna Lucille (Anderson) Patton. She moved to Kingman County in 1977 from Lawrence.

Mrs. Merrick had been a substitute teacher at Lawrence High School, and was active in the League of Women Voters and the First United Methodist Church, both of Lawrence.

She married William H. Cape. He died in 1973. She later married Lloyd N. Merrick. He died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn L. Cape LaBlanc, Tampa, Fla.; a son, Charles W. Cape, Mundelein, Ill.; two stepsons, David Merrick, Augusta, Maine, and Roger Merrick, Murdock; two brothers, Loren Patton, Topeka, and Ora Patton, Palmdale, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Apps, Emmett, Idaho, and Izora Schwarting, Eskridge; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
