She was reared in New Albany, Indiana and married John Keplinger there in 1858.
John died in 1908. Sarah later removed to California near a daughter and grand-children. She was preceded in death by two sons, William J. and Levi D. Keplinger.

Mrs. Sarah E. Kiplinger (sic, also spelled Keplinger) died today at the age of 91 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thorniet Downs, on Matadero avenue. Interment will be made in Alta Mesa Cemetery. Mrs. Kiplinger was a native of Indiana. She is survived by one daughter, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Three of the grandchildren reside here. They are Mrs. John F. Eastos, John Kiplinger and Mrs. V. Edmunds.
