Jack Bonventre, 85, of Endicott, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Monday, May 4, 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Antoinette; sister, Angie Jardine; brothers, Gasper and Jerome; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Salma Ligouri. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Edith (Ligouri) Bonventre, Endicott; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and JoAnne Bonventre, Watertown, NY, and Robert and Annette Bonventre, Endicott; five grandchildren, including Vanessa Bonventre; two sisters, Josephine Borrelli and Amelia Bonventre; a brother and sisters-in-law, Sam and Marie and Anne and Rose Bonventre; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray Ligouri; Joseph and Carolyn Ligouri and Mamie and Benny Fiacco, all of Endicott; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott, where he had been a custodian for many years and was a retired Village of Endicott employee. Jack was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US 3rd Army, European Theater, under General George S. Patton, where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Some of his memberships include American Legion Post 82, Endicott, for the past 60 years, AARP, North Side Seniors, Jennie F. Snapp Senior Citizens and the Wendy's Group, Endicott. Jack's family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of Lourdes Hospital Seton One, Endicott Fire Department Fire and Rescue Squad and the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, for all that they did.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 3 p.m. from St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at church from 1 p.m. until Mass time at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to his granddaughter Vanessa's favorite charity, Project PAW, 127 Bevier Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
