Marvin G. Westby, age 90, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester on Feb. 9, 2008. Funeral services were held Feb. 13, 2008 at Salem United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, with Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service were in charge of arrangements.

Marvin G. Westby was born in Renville, on Oct. 27, 1917 to Cornelius and Sophie (Nelson) Westby. Marvin graduated from Renville High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 6, 1941 to Oct. 11, 1945, serving in Kodiak, Alaska and the European Theater of action. Marvin married Ruth Eleanor Schwen in Blue Earth on Feb. 10, 1946. Marvin worked as a professional photographer from 1949-1959 in Winnebago. Marvin and Ruth moved to a farm outside of Blue Earth in 1960, and later moving into Blue Earth in 1993.

Ruth preceded Marvin in death in 2004. Later that year, Marvin became a resident at Parker Oaks Nursing Home and Assisted Living in Winnebago until the time of his death.

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, playing cards and spending time with his family. While living in Blue Earth, Marvin served terms on the County Zoning Commission, Blue Earth Hospital Board and First National Bank Board. Marvin was a member of the Chain of Lakes Masonic Lodge in Fairmont, the Blue Earth American Legion Post 89, and the United Methodist Church of Winnebago.

Marvin is survived by his children: Carol Westby of New Braunfels, Texas, Cynthia Lutz of Fairmont, Mark (Oksana) Westby of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, and Neil (Debby) Westby of Waseca; sisters: Hazel Casey and Inga Ell both of Winona, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth, two brothers and six sisters.
