Nick Boone
A man in whom there is no guile John 1:47

Cecil Altman Boone, who left this life for his next on January 20, 2023 was nicknamed Nicky by his mother before he was born and it stuck with him until his last day. To his oldest friends he was Nicky to others, Nick
Born June 1, 1935, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the second son of Archie and Margaret Pritchard Boone. Archie and Margaret had a year earlier (to the day) welcomed their first child. By the end of 1935, the Boones had moved to Nashville where Archie joined his uncle's construction company,. Two more siblings were born and a family foundation was permanently laid.
Nick was a good student, athlete, and actor, participating in school sports and productions at David Lipscomb High School, graduating in 1953. He also sang publicly around Nashville at area talent shows and concerts as well as leading singing for churches of Christ across middle TN. Four years later, Nick earned an English degree from David Lipscomb College, after which he signed a recording contract with Dot Records. He moved to New York City to pursued his pop singing career and used the stage name of Nick Todd which is the name of the DOT record label backwards. Nick had two songs on Billboard's Hot 100, "Plaything" and "At the Hop." After three years, he left the pop music world behind in New York with plans to join his father in the family business by getting an architecture degree from the University of Florida.
While home for the summer of 1962, he met his future wife, marrying Dec. 27, 1962.
Nick deciding that architecture was not for him, left to build a career for himself in what proved to be his life's calling. His genuine care and deep concern for those in need inspired a group of leaders among Churches of Christ to send Nick to graduate school to get his master's degree in social work and open a Memphis office of the family services agency AGAPE. He served as its founding executive director for eight years then was recruited by the Madison Church of Christ in Nashville to return home and lead the Madison Children's Home as well as leading the singing, which he did for the next 20 years. During that time, he recognized the need for victims of spousal abuse to find a safe place to live and created the Madison Domestic Violence Shelter, which was only the second domestic violence shelter in Nashville.
Nick's life and career came full circle when in 1998, he joined the social work faculty at Lipscomb University before retiring in 2006.
Throughout his life, Nick was sought after for leading singing as early as a teen he was asked to sing at his home congregation of Granny White Church of Christ and later while in Lipscomb College he won the song leaders contest twice. He was also in Choral groups in high school and college as well as quartets in College and later in his life. He was also sought after for Workshops and Seminars, Lectureships, Weekend retreats and Gospel meetings all over the U.S. as well as in Scotland. He was also the permanent song leader at many different churches in Nashville; Manhattan; Gainesville, St. Petersburg, Fla., Memphis and Mount Pleasant, TN. And in his old age, often for the final time where he began — which was fitting in that he worked in the summers for his father at the Boone Contracting Co that erected the Granny White building in 1953. He loved the Lord and was interested in doing anything in the Lord's church for which he had talent. In addition to song leading, he served as a deacon, class teacher and youth mentor.
"I was GLAD when they said unto me let us go into the house of the Lord" is a scripture which he loved and fit him perfectly. He loved worship and the fellowship of believers and the word. He loved the WORD and since he was 35 years old, he read the Bible through each year. The other scripture that personifies Nick is 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is Patient; Love is Kind;; It does not Envy It does not Boast; It is not Proud; It does not dishonor others; It is not Self-Seeking; It is not Easily Angered; It keeps no record of Wrongs; Love does not delight in Evil. but rejoices in the Truth; It always Protects; Always Trusts Always Hopes; Always perseveres! If you take out love and insert Nick, you have the man summed up in one scripture. He was a man of prayer, a man of the word a man who loved God and his fellowman . He was the same man in his home as he was in public . He did not change with every wind that blew He was constant and true.
He was a faithful and loving , a devoted father who never gave up on his children, a loyal friend and a man who looked for the best in everyone and believed in the best in everyone. A prince among men.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Margaret; and a grandson, Alex Boone.
A celebration of life for Nick was held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Church of Christ in Green Hills, 3805 Granny White Pike, Nashville, TN 37204.
