John married Elizabeth Timmerman, 5 July 1855 and had two children: John Henry and Mary Elizabeth. Mary married Elmer Baker and they lived in Grangerville. Elmer invented a rack to catch eels at Fish Creek bridge that he would pull from the water with a team of horses. Skins of a certain lenght were sold for buggy whips. This story was often told by Harold Peck.
John R was supervisor of the town of Northumberland 1879 and 1884-5.
He was the grandfather of Grace Vanderwerker Leddick Everts well known Saratoga County historian.
