Reikorangi was the scene recently of a very pretty wedding when Miss Rita Symonds, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Symonds, was married to Mr William Douglas, of Wellington, the officiating clergyman being Rev H. B. Goertz. Miss W. Parata presided at the organ.
The bride's unusual gown was of champagne slipper satin, cut on Grecian lines and she wore a long matching veil of tulle, with a halo of pleated tulle, held in place with orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of lilies. She was escorted by her father and attended by her sister, Miss Vera Symonds, as bridesmaid. The bridegroom was attended by Mr W. Knight, of Wellington. As the bridal couple left the church an unusual note was added, when ribbons of the Douglas tartan were placed over their shoulders by two little friends of the bride, Joan and Gloria Stubbings. A tiny tot, Joy Burgess, presented the bride with a satin horseshoe.
At the reception the guests, who numbered over 80, were received by the bride's parents. Before leaving for Wellington, where they will make their future home, Mr and Mrs Douglas presented each guest with a small piece of the tartan ribbon. The bride travelled in a brown costume with smart brown hat and shoes and carried a brown handbag, the gift of the bridegroom.
