INDIAN TRAIL - Lemuel Sylvester Helms, 81, of Rt. 1, Indian Trail, died Nov. 26, 1961 in Vero Beach, Fla. A retired farmer and auto dealer he was born Nov. 22, 1880 in Union County, N. C., son of the late James T. and Elizabeth Lyles Helms. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Isabelle Pigg Helms; 6 sons and 5 daughters as follows: Mrs. Ray Clontz, Vero Beach, Fla., Mrs. John R. Beatty, Midland, Mrs. Thomas Hall, Monroe, J. T. Helms, Charlotte, Mrs. Oscar Faulks, Monroe, Miss Aurila Helms, Vaughan Helms, Victor Helms, all of Charlotte, Norman Helms, Midland, Bill Helms and McLendon Helms, both of Charlotte; 27 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lois Long, Indian Trail and Mrs. Della Love, Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. J. D. Tucker, pastor, officiating, assisted by Dr. C. C. Burris. Interment in Emmanuel Cemetery in Union County. Pallbearers are Ronda Helms, L. S. Beatty, Henry Hall, Roger Hall, Byron Beatty and Gerald Clontz. The body will remain at the Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The family is at the home of Mrs. John R. Beatty.
