Collegiate and Professional Football Player. Bacchus played high football and basketball at Kansas City Central in Missouri. After high school, he became a star athlete at the University of Missouri beginning in 1924, while playing college football and basketball and as a track and field team member. Playing at the end, he helped lead the football squad to the Big Eight Conference championship in 1924 and 1925. He was named to the 1925 and 1926 All-Missouri Valley Conference football teams. Bacchus served as a team captain and was named a third-team player on the 1926 College Football All-America Team. He turned professional in 1927 and joined the Cleveland Bulldogs of the National Football League. Bacchus appeared in 10 games for Cleveland that season, scoring three touchdowns, and was named to the 1927 All-Pro Team. He moved to the Detroit Wolverines in 1928 and scored four more touchdowns in nine games. After his athletic career, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and earned a Bronze Star. Bacchus later worked as an executive with the Kansas City Life Insurance Company.
