Aurilla Rose Whitmore, of Lawton, was born on September 15, 1927 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Clarence S. and Zylpha Maud (Daubenspeck) Brindle. She died on February 24, 2008 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 80. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Rev. Jack Pilgrim, First Baptist Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will follow at Leticia Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 26, 2008 from 1:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home, with the family in attendance from 6 – 8 P.M.
Aurilla was raised and attended school in Lawton. She married Charles Whitmore Sr. in Oklahoma City in 1949. She and Charles lived on the family farm east of Lawton where they raised their 3 sons. Aurilla also helped raise 6 grandsons who at one time or another called the farm their home. These 9 young men provided her with ample opportunity to perfect her cooking skills! In addition to her family obligations, which were always her primary concern, she enjoyed spending time in her garden and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and a grandson, Billy Whitmore.
She is survived by 3 sons, Charles Carlyle Whitmore Jr. and his wife Janet of Lawton, Oklahoma, Wayland Mace Whitmore and his wife Helen of Gordonville, Texas, and Lelyan Clarence Whitmore and his wife Diana of Englewood, Florida; step-daughter Beverly Widner of St. Joseph, Missouri; extended family, Kenneth Smart and his wife Samara of Lawton, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, Chad and his wife Lana of Fletcher, Nicholas of Lawton, Clint and his wife Cindy, Shannon Carson and her husband Clarence all of Murphysboro, Tenn, Shawn and his wife Lorie, Shane and his wife Loren all of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Wayne of Englewood, Florida; 6 step grandchildren, Steven Tyrone of Sterling, Oklahoma, Crystal Rowe and her husband Tracy of Lawton, Justin Gilliland of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Terry Clowell and his wife Chavaughn of Warren, Oklahoma, Matt Wyatt and his wife Jenny of McAlester, Oklahoma and Timmy Glandon and his wife Sharel of Grandfield, Oklahoma a sister, Priscilla Fern Smart and her husband Troy of Lawton, Oklahoma; 17 great grandchildren; 2 special nephews, Leslie and J.T. both of Lawton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
