Mrs. Bettie S. (Smith) Helfrick, 97, a resident of Providence Place and formerly of Waynesboro, PA passed away Wednesday morning, February 1, 2023, in the assisted living center. Born June 10, 1925 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Roger A. and Florence M. (Kepner) Smith. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area. Mrs. Helfrick graduated from Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1943. She and her husband, the late Robert H. Helfrick, were married on July 9, 1971. Mr. Helfrick died on August 4, 2016. Mrs. Helfrick worked as a secretary at Frick Company, Waynesboro for over 43 years. She retired in 1986. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where she served on various committees. She was also a member of Franklin County Nursing Home Auxiliary, South Chapter #2977 AARP and the National AARP. She is survived by two step-granddaughters; two step-great-grandchildren; her step-daughter-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, E. LaRue Kugler and Helen Lucille Zimmerman; and one brother, J. Marshall Smith. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2023, in Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Pastor Alison Grove officiating. Burial will be private in Quincy Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Saturday morning, in the church.
