John W. Newton, 84, of Syracuse, passed from this life on Sunday, February 17, 2008, at the VA Hospital after a short illness. He was born November 30, 1923, to Forrest and Anna Newton in Ilion, NY. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Infantry, WW II Pacific Theater, stationed in New Guinea. He married Hilah Foote in Port Henry on Lake Champlain. He drove for the Greyhound bus company, worked for Carrier Corp. as a tool designer and was also the head of the security department at Loretto Geriatric Center. John was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He will be missed. He is survived by his sister, Bonita Ross of Tacoa, GA; his son, David J. of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Services: There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in Port Henry.
