Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Pastor Nancy Nichols officiating. Private burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, IN. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Thursday and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
She was born September 17, 1932 in Galien, MI to the late Leon and Muriel (Unruh) DuBois. On May 26, 1951 in Galien, Michigan she married Wayne Sommer who preceded her on February 22, 2021.
Surviving are three sons, David (Connie) Sommer of The Villages, FL, Dr.
Darry (Tena) Sommer of Vernon Hills, IL and Dr. Dennis (Dr. Kathryn) Sommer of La Porte, IN; daughter-in-law, Marlene Sommer of Michigan City, IN; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Douglas Sommer.
She was a retired educator for the Michigan City area school system. and a member of First United Methodist Church, Michigan City, Indiana. Jean Marie enjoyed traveling and the hobby of collecting sewing thimbles.
