Jean A. Kass-Edmonds, 85, residing in South Bend, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. She was born July 31, 1937 in Dubuque, IA, to the late Earl T. and Meretta (Ryan) Donegan.

On July 6, 1957 in Dubuque, IA, Jean married John Kass who preceded her in death on October 11, 2007, just months after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family. On June 27, 2009 she married Gene Edmonds who also preceded her in death on April 10, 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Todd) Tobolski of South Bend, IN; Anni (Tom) DesJardins of Woodland, ME; sons, Mark (Kathy) Kass of Pearland, Texas; Bob (Janet) Kass of Kauai, HI; 15 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, soon to be 9. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, John and Tom Donegan.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and active member in her church community. She and John welcomed a Vietnamese refugee family into their home, alongside their own family, through a sponsorship effort with St. Columbkille's Parish (Dubuque, IA). In 1986, they moved to South Bend, IN and became members of St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church where they continued to embrace their passion for helping others. Jean volunteered in the church's food pantry, was on the Social Life Commission, was a Eucharistic minister, and prepared food for and provided comfort helping with the funeral luncheons at Little Flower. Jean was also active in the South Bend community. She was a long-time volunteer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where she worked in the flower shop and patient registration. She volunteered with Hannah's House and the Right to Life South Bend Chapter. She was also a member of the Christ Child Society and served on the local board for a period.

Jean was an avid fan of Notre Dame women's basketball and Notre Dame football. She also enjoyed giving tours at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of Notre Dame. She enjoyed traveling, attending mass with friends, singing in the church choir, planting flowers, keeping house, and cooking. She was also a fabulous baker who spread joy everywhere she shared her baked goodies. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and though her adventures in traveling were curtailed in later years, she loved seeing pictures and hearing news of her great-grandchildren, grandchildren, and children.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Monday, January 2, 2023 at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N Ironwood Rd, South Bend, IN 46635.
