Professional football player. Cassiano, along with quarterback John Chickerneo, fullback Marshall Goldberg, and fellow halfback Harold "Curly" Stebbins, made up the "dream backfield" of the University of Pittsburgh's football team in the late 1930s. The four players, under legendary coach Jock Sutherland, led Pitt to the 1937 Rose Bowl win and a national championship. In 1939, Cassiano was named an honorable mention All-American. After graduating, he played in the National Football League with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1940. He ended his football career to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later coached at Dartmouth and Pitt before becoming a school teacher.
