Mary Woolerton was born in Thrussington, Leicestershire, England. She was the sixth of seven children born to George Woolerton (1793-), blacksmith, and Mary Chamberlain (1793-1828). She arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in October 1849 and married Joseph Knight on November 14, 1852.
