Betty Maude Aldrich was born 21 July 1923 at Los Angeles, California to Alvin T. Andrews and Maude O'Conner Andrews. She passed away 18 January 2005 at her home in Salmon at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 27 days. Her life was filled with experiences that made her the great person she was. Her father, Alvin T. Andrews was born 23 Nov 1896. His family owned property in Salmon and worked at many different vocations. As a young man he operated a freight line between Red Rock and Salmon. He was a veteran of World War I and also worked as a policeman in Salmon. Betty's O'Conner grandparents had worked their way west with the railroad while still in their mid-teens and homesteaded in Forney, Idaho near Meyer's Cove. The foundation of Betty's character was formed in Forney and she often referred to her days of growing up there. She enjoyed seeing her relatives. Betty spent time during the depression down river. Her mother was the cook for the CCC Camp that helped build the road down river. While in Salmon, Betty married Ernest Richard Benedict and from this marriage they had one son, Ernest Richard (Rick) who was born 24 July 1941. Betty and Richard got along well, but they both agreed that it was not going to work so she took young Rick and moved to California. There they were room mates with Marion Aldrich. Marion's brother, Bob was fighting in World War II at the time, but on his return he and Betty began courting and were married. From this union one daughter, Roberta Ann was born. Betty and Bob owned and operated Lakewood Orthodontics Lab and she also was employed as a dietician, so it kept them busy. Betty was good with finances and in time they bought a home and made many improvements to it. Bob passed away in 1990 and Betty sold her home in Southern California and moved back to Salmon. There she enjoyed going to Senior Citizens and her church. She was a member of the Salmon United Methodist Church. She loved dark chocolate and the color blue. She is survived by her son, Earnest Richard Benedict III of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Roberta Slavin and her husback Jock of Carmen; three grandsons, Matt Slavin and wife, Kara of Boise, Chase Slavin and wife Daniela of Carmen, and John slavin of Malibue, California; four great-grandchildren, Devan and Brandon of Boise and Chayla and Dane of Carmen. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bob. Memorial services were held at the Salmon United Methodist Church on 21 January 2005. Followed by burial in the Salmon Cemetery for both Betty and Robert Chase Aldrich.
