He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired as an English Literature Teacher for Warren Consolidated Public School System in Macomb County, MI. A ballroom dancer and an avid golfer; he was a member of the Sandpiper Country Club and Renaissance Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Helen Stephens.
Survivors include his wife, Susan P. Stephens; three daughters, Cheryl L. Simon, Carol A. Heinicke and Joan L. Lake; his six grandchildren, Stephen Heinicke, Christopher, James and Raymond Lake, Cameron and Kaitlyn Simon; and his brother, Robert Stephens.
Funeral services and burial will be in Statesboro, GA. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Freedom Plaza. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House of Sun City Center, 3725 Upper Creek Drive, Ruskin, FL 33573.
