Lutzy A. Kozon, 92, of Boise passed away on Feb. 27, 2008 at a local care center. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at the Joplin Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Lutzy was born on Nov. 27, 1915 in New Britain, Conn, to Ignatius and Rosalie Kozon. Extremely devoted to his family, as the eldest brother he took on the responsibility of teacher and protector very seriously. Lutzy would initiate games, which all the brothers could participate in and kept them all out of trouble. Unfortunately, World War II separated the family for six years. Lutzy joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, while his brothers, Eddie and Joe, joined the Navy. Lutzy survived the attack on Pearl Harbor although many of his close friends did not. During these attacks on Pearl Harbor, his plane went down and crashed into the Pacific. Lutzy pulled himself together and swam towards shore when his rescuers spotted him. Captain Lutzy Kozon was honorably discharged from the Air force in 1945. God looked after them all and each returned home safely though they were scattered around the country. Lutzy was an avid bowler and a member of the American Bowling Congress. The family's last reunion was in Indiana in 1990 though they maintained constant contact through letters and by phone. Lutzy is survived by his brothers: Zigmond Kozon of Connecticut, Reverend John Kozon of Tennessee, and Joseph Kozon of Indiana; his stepdaughter, Burgie Ryan of Boise; granddaughter, Cathy Parks and grandson, Jeremy Parks of Boise; grandson, Randy Tarpey-Schwed and partner Mark, great-grandaughters, Camilla and Francis Tarpey-Schwed of Mill Valley, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eddie and Chester; his daughter, Vicki; and both of his wives, Loretta and Lillian. Our Dear Brother, may you rest in peace. You have done your duty to God, your country, your family and friends. Forgive us for not being able to attend your services as you are laid to rest, we are all old and unable to travel due to our limitations. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his many friends; associates and all who serve our country. Published in the Idaho Statesman on 2/28/2008.
