JOHNSON, BARBARA C. (BETTENCOURT) 87, of Manchester Circle, Coventry, passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Kent Hospital. She was the wife of the late Everett Johnson and the former wife of the late Lawrence LeClair.
A lifelong resident of Coventry, Barbara was a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Cook) Bettencourt.
Barbara graduated from Coventry High School in 1953. She was multi-talented and very accomplished as a clothing designer and a seamstress, jewelry designer and assembler, and a specialty cake baker.
Barbara was a strong, kind, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, making them special treats, playing games (somehow she always won), solving puzzles, reading, painting and drawing.
However, most of all she loved her cats. She was an exceptionally warm and compassionate person, and she will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, laughter, hugs & kisses.
She was the mother of Lori M. Dessert and her husband Joseph of Coventry, Denise E. Sullivan of West Warwick, and Timothy Johnson of upstate New York. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sisters Joan Rodgrigues and Patricia Lemoi, both of Coventry; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Barbara was the sister of the late James, Martin, Joseph Bettencourt and Ruth Wood.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 10 am - 12 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 pm in the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington, St. (Rte.117) Coventry. Interment at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Coventry. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara's memory to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA.COM) would be appreciated.
