JOHN WAXLER, eighth child of William and Elizabeth Bollman, of German and Swiss ancestry, was born on a farm near Zanesville, Ohio, January 30, 1844. He was literate, but had very little formal education; with parents to Winneshiek County, Iowa, 1855; to Minnesota, 1874; to Oregon, 1882; to Washington,1906; John was a farmer, steeped in the farm tradition of long hours and hard work. Other occupations: carpenter, teamster; a man of few words, but of upright, honorable actions, who maintained the respect of his neighbors; member of Baptist Church; married Martha Mitchel October 19, 1869, at Decorah, Iowa; eight children.
