Ellen Doyle

Feb. 28, 1911 - Nov. 7, 1997

Ellen Doyle, 86, died Friday in Albany.

She was born in Portland to Bernhard and Alma Bergstrom. She grew up in Portland, finishing high school there.

In 1929, she married Joe Doyle in Portland. They moved to Camp McGregor Logging Camp in Keasey, where Mr. Doyle worked for the railroad and Mrs. Doyle worked as a homemaker and as a hasher in the camp cookhouse.

In 1933, a large fire in the area caused them to move to Black Rock Camp in the Coast Range, but they moved back to Camp McGregor in 1935.

From 1947 to 1950, the Doyles owned and operated the mill at the camp. They moved to Willamina in 150, where Mrs. Doyle worked at a drug store, and to Lebanon in 1958, where she worked as a real estate agent until 1973. From 1973 to 1978, she worked as a police matron for the Lebanon Police Department.

Mr. and Mrs. Doyle enjoyed traveling until Mr. Doyle's death in 1981. In 1985, Mrs. Doyle began volunteering full time at Linn-Benton Community College in Lebanon, until a stroke in 1995 forced her to retire.

She was past worthy matron of the Rebekah Lodge in Willamina.

Music, painting, drawing and traveling were among Mrs. Doyle's hobbies. Several of her paintings hang in local businesses, the senior center and the college. She also enjoyed cooking, her family, and helping people.

Surviving are sons Bernie of Albany and Richard of La Jolla, Calif.; grandsons David Doyle of San Diego, Calif., Richard Doyle of Albany and Chris Doyle of Lebanon; granddaughters Terry Frobe and Karen Doyle, both of San Diego; and great-grandchildren Jake Lott of Albany, Courtney and Kaley Doyle of Lebanon and Alex and Morgan Frobe, both of San Diego.

A private graveside service of tribute and love will be held at Skyline Memorial Park, Portland. AAsum Funeral Home of Albany is in charge of arrangements.
