He was first elected mayor of Sweetwater in 1981, serving 18 years — the longest serving mayor in Sweetwater's history; served as city attorney from 1960 to 1971; delegate to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention, 1965/66; practiced law in Sweetwater for 18 years; and was a retired Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration. Ridenour was a 50-year member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #292; a member of Sweetwater OddFellow Lodge #282; 32nd Degree (Scottish Rite)+++ Mason and Shriner; Past National Councilor for the Junior Order of United American Mechanics; former Kiwanian and Optimist member; president and founder of the Citizens Industrial Committee in the 1960s and re-established this group while mayor. He was a past coach at Sweetwater Junior High School and a member of the First Baptist Church, Sweetwater. He was 79.
