William J. Aase, 93, of Mondovi passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born on May 25, 1914, in Mondovi to Joseph and Julia (Halberg) Aase. Bill graduated from Mondovi High School. On Nov. 21, 1940, he married Marion Switzenberg in Mondovi. During World War II, he was a radio operator in the U.S. Army, where he served in the European theater. After his service he owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store in Mondovi for over 40 years. He was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi Conservation Club and Mondovi American Legion Post 154. Bill was also a charter member of the Mondovi Lions Club. Bill was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching the Packers and the Badgers.

He is survived by one son, Joe Aase of Mondovi; three grandchildren, William (Kari) Aase of St. Paul, Kelly Aase of Chicago and Brittany Aase of Burnsville, Minn.; one great-grandson, Joey Aase; one sister, Betty Freitag of New Glarus; nieces and nephews; other relatives.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his parents; three sisters, Neva Nelson, Wilma Prince and Margaret Weishapple; one brother, Pat Aase.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with the Rev. Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Mondovi Veterans Group.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi and on Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
