Gene" Clarence Clyde Caraker, 66, of West Frankfort passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 surrounded by family and friends. He was born September 4, 1942 in West Vienna, IL to Clyde and Iva (Penrod) Caraker.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, whether they won or lost. He liked to fish and also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles while he drank his coffee. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Gene is survived by his wife: Marsha Caraker of West Frankfort; five sons: Steven (Shannon) Caraker of Minooka, Sam Caraker of Benton, Gene Allen Sr. (Pam) Caraker, Michael Perkins and Brian Caraker all of West Frankfort; three daughters: Rita (Mike) Cullison of Belknap, Penny (Ron) McCormick of Chicago Heights and Samantha Caraker of Alto Pass; three step-sons: Damon Wilson, Aaron (Julie) Short and Cody Wilson all of West Frankfort; one step-daughter: Julie (Josh) Sturgill of West Frankfort; many wonderful grandchildren: Aaron, Dana, Christina, Sam, Daniel, Nathan, Elijah, Noah, Adam, Joey, Payton, Kayanna, Andrew, Becky, Gene Jr., Blessings, Patiance, Lexi, Lane and Macy; three beautiful great granddaughters: India, Sharice and Devlyn; brother: Joe Staley of West Frankfort; two nieces: Dawn and Tracy of West Frankfort; and one nephew: Wayne Jr. of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Iva Caraker; son: Kim Caraker; brother: Wayne Caraker; and nephew: Jerry Dale Caraker.
As per Gene's request, he will be cremated with no visitation. The family will be having a private family remembrance service. Union Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
