David Edwin Elmore was born in Dallas on May 25, 1949 to Edwin and Juanita Elmore. He grew up in Dallas. A graduate from South Oak Cliff High School, he studied Electrical Engineering and Business Administration at The University of Texas at Arlington and Southern Methodist University.
David served in the United States Naval Air Force from October 1, 1967 to October 11, 1973. He was employed by AT&T, serving several cities. He retired as an Area Manager, Network Administration after 48 years.
David's talents and interests were varied. He loved all things tech and electronic. He loved weather and severe storms. In 1978, David and a few fellow electronic nerds volunteered and built the state of the art Weather Radar used by WFAA for tracking severe weather. He loved classical music, especially pipe organ music. David was an active member of several Presbyterian and Methodist churches over the years. His membership is currently at First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth, Texas. He had a great voice and did voiceovers for radio for several non-profit organizations. He served as a Reserve Police Officer in Corsicana, Texas for 3 years.
David served as a mentor in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. He loved all 8 of the "little brothers" that he mentored over the years. He served the organization as a representative and Board President on the Board of Trustees of Big Brothers/Big Sisters Dallas and North Texas. He was honored as Big Brother of the Year twice and Board Member of the Year once.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Juanita Elmore, and his son, Kevin Michael Elmore.
David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail Green Elmore, by his son, Ryan David Elmore, and his daughter, Angela Elmore Rose and his two grandchildren, Adalie Grace Rose and Nolan Elijah Rose. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Ussery, his "little brother" Devon Burch, and his Brother-In-Law, Julius Miller. He also has several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, whom he loved very much.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A funeral service will occur Friday, February 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 4216 South Bowen Road, Arlington, TX 76016. A committal service will occur Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
