Nicholas Marshall Donovant, age 81, formerly a resident of the Horsepasture community, but for the past several years a citizen of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. W. Heath, Church Street, here Wednesday night, following a brief illness.
A stoke of paralysis suffered several days ago was attributed to his death, although he had been in declining health for the past several months.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the former Donovant home near Horsepasture and interment followed in the family burial grounds nearby.
Surviving are the following children: Mesdames C. W. Heath, Martinsville; W. N. Bell, Karl C. Vickers and O. B. Truelove of Winston-Salem and C. L. Donovant of Huntington, W. Va.
The following brothers and sisters also remain: G. T. Donovant, this city; Mesdames Susan J. Oakley, Winston-Salem, N.C.; T. B. Merriman this city; John Joyce of Honey Grove, Texas, and T. J. Smithers, Roanoke, Va.
The deceased was born and reared in the Horsepasture community of this county, but later moved to Winston-Salem where he resided until several months ago when he came to Martinsville to reside with a daughter.
