Dwyane's parents were migrant farm workers during his childhood, they followed the crops throughout the southern states. Later he worked in the cotton fields of their small family farm. As a young man Dwayne served in the US Army, and later in the Army Reserves. He earned a degree in accounting and spent his career at McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing), starting in accounting and moving into human resources management. He had been retired for about 30 years.
Dwayne and Sonya were avid gospel music fans. Together they were regulars on the gospel music circuit. They loved traveling by motorcycle, locally on their Harley and long-distance on their Honda Gold Wing. They traveled to 49 states and throughout Canada on their motorcycles, often traveling with friends and family on their many adventures. Dwayne also enjoyed camping, boating, and flying small planes. Church was a center of activity for Dwayne as well, until the poor health of later years made this impractical. Dwayne was a patient and devoted caregiver to Sonya through her battle with Alzheimer's, despite his own health struggles.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sonya, parents Edwin and Velma (Long) Adkerson, and brother Jimmy Adkerson.
In accordance with the adamant insistence of the deceased, no public services will be held.
