Jesus Maria Chavez would sit under a tree near his home in Bosque, reading his Bible daily as the beautiful New Mexico sunsets would simmer and glisten the radiances of heavenly light. He was a man of stature and Respect. Many times going to a near by town, Los Chavez, for meeting involving the township.

Many diseases were prevalent during the late eighteen hundreds and early 1900. Therefore many children died young. Jesus's family also felt the results of this by the death of three children and one of drowning.
1. Froilan I (10/13/1885-10/31/1885)13 days old.
2. Adelfa (12/16/1883-4/22/1888)5 year old.
3. Robert (12/30/1892 - 1/29/1893)26 days old
4. Fidel (12/3/1882 - 12/13/1902) He was the oldest of the famly and died by drowning in the Rio Grande River at the age of 21 years old.

Since Jesus saw the importance of Education, all his children and himself were innumerated in the 1900 census as English speakers. Three of his sons, Fidel, Froilan II and Alfredo attended the Menaul School. His youngest daughter Teodola was a teacher. She taught in Seboyeta, New Mexico before getting married. Supposedly she attended Loretto School for the girls in Santa Fe. He also had a daughter Delfina Chavez who also taught and the youngest son was Adenago Chavez who served in the Army in WWII.
