Collegiate and professional football player. In his junior year at Lamar University in 1976, Bell made the football team as a walk-on. He received first-team All-Southland Conference honors after leading the team in rushing yards in his senior year. He also ran track from 1973 to 1977 and set the school's 100-meter dash record and was a two-time NCAA qualifier in the 100-meter dash. Bell was drafted in the 12th round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He never played for San Diego, as he was traded shortly after to the New York Jets. Bell appeared in nine games for New York that season. He went on to play for the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League. After his playing career, he worked at DuPont, Gerdau Steel, and was a substitute teacher. Bell was named to the Lamar University Cardinal Hall of Honor in 2002.
