August 31, 1945 - February 19, 2023
Mrs. Peggy J. Cross, known by so many as "Nana", passed away peacefully at the age of 77, on Sunday evening, February 19, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family.
Peggy was a lifelong native of Calhoun County and lived most of her life in Jacksonville. She was born on August 31, 1945, in Anniston, to the late Joseph C. Howard and Alice Faye Andrews Howard.
A service to celebrate Peggy's life will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville (1153 Nisbet Lake Road). Rev. Jack Morgan will be officiating the service. Burial will follow in Friendship Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Preceding Peggy in death, along with her parents, are her husband, Aubrey Butch Cross; her brother, Kenny Howard; her sister, Judy Howard; and her grandson, Brandon Angles.
Those left to cherish Peggy's memory include her children, Kim Cross Leggett (Jack), Kristy Cross Upton (Gerald), and Kelly Cross (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Tiffany Bonds, Keisha Monroe, Chase Johnson, Luke Johnson, Kevin Cross (Ashley), Kaleb Cross (Taylor), and Tiffany Jeffers (Kristin); seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joanne Harcrow (Randy); and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was a light to all who knew her. She was best known to many as "Nana". Peggy acquired that title for being the amazing and devoted mother and grandmother she was, never wavering to care for her family and put them first in everything she did. She was the best sister her siblings could ask for and a precious friend to so many people. Peggy retired from Federal Mogul after 25 years, and was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior, and her Christian example will be remembered forever.
Pallbearers will be Peggy's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, also known as "Nana's Boys", of whom she would have been so proud knowing they were helping take her to her final place of rest.
